Today, most who know me well might tell you that I am a bit different from that kid who grew up on Chips Ahoy Cookies and Pepsi cola. I’m happy to admit that chiropractic care saved my life. That being said, I can appreciate when someone mentions to me that the idea of receiving chiropractic care scares them, even when they feel they would benefit from it. Admittedly, my own initial chiropractic experience was scary to say the least. I had no idea what chiropractic was or why I would need it. Honestly, it was terrifying. I remember it vividly. Seemingly without warning, my Chiropractor “wrenched“ my neck and I heard an incredible noise, only after I realized that I could still feel my fingers and toes, did I note one very important side effect; relief.
Ultimately, that first chiropractic experience resolved my all-too-frequent childhood headaches. More importantly, however, it profoundly influenced my future. Not only did I want to know why and how it worked, but, I became a student of health. I wanted to understand what separated the healthy from the unhealthy. I wanted to learn how to create health in my own life and the lives of others. After I began to answer these and other difficult questions, I realized that the chiropractic philosophy that becoming a Chiropractor was the most logical path for my life.
Today when asked what I do I answer in the following way. I help people just like you to get and stay healthy. I begin by asking myself one simple question when someone seeks out my care and advice: Why is this person not expressing the levels of health they want and deserve? I spend the remainder of my energy on answering that question. As a healthcare provider, my job is to help those who can’t help themselves, sometimes it is by treating a condition, but it should always end with teaching the patient lifestyle habits that will keep them optimally healthy. Often times people speak of the fact that Chiropractors want you to make it a lifestyle when you initiate care with them .
I truly appreciate your hesitation to call a Chiropractor and make an appointment. We often fear what we don’t understand.
